Damayanti is a history professor. Incidentally, it is known that she has a natural ability to unravel the mystery of any anti-social criminal incident. Since then, she has been helping her engineer husband Samaresh Dutta Gupta's friend, Siben of the Kolkata Police Detective Department, in solving some complex mysteries. Her logic, intelligence, ability to analyze an incident correctly, etc., have solved many crime mysteries. This is not unusual. Damayanti is not a professional detective. She does not use guns or pistols. She does not fight with murderers or goons. She and Samaresh have a small, happy, peaceful family. Both Siben and Samaresh help her in her work. Apart from solving mysteries, Damayanti cooks well and loves to discuss neighborhood gossip with Shiben's wife, Ramla. In her free time, she reads books or watches movies.
